Boost Up Your Hair Care Routine With Olaplex At-Home Treatments

Hair care treatment

The Olaplex treatment is a completely unique and patented system which rebuilds damaged hair from within, restoring the disulphide bonds that those dreaded chemical services break down. The concept came about when Dr. Eric Pressly (world renowned cosmetic scientist) was doing research on how to prevent colour fade in bleached blonde hair. He discovered, as he put it: "Hair was like gum eraser that had been erased too much." It can't be repaired unless you somehow find a way to bond broken disulphide bonds back together."

After years of trying different things and treatments with no success - He finally stumbled upon an ancient Japanese technique called "Ionic bonding". This treatment combined certain amino acids with water, breaking the disulphide bonds in the hair. The amino acids are attracted to the broken sulfur bond, and form a new disulfide bridge between them which is 3 times stronger than before. This is how it works on the hair structure - With more energy required for the chemical process to break down these bridges, less energy is available to break apart your keratin protein chains. Which means that after you apply Olaplex 0, Olaplex 3, and Olaplex 8, your hair is more solid, strong and resistant to any further damage. "The end result is practically indestructible hair.”

How does Olaplex 3 work? What does it do?

Olaplex 3 Bond Perfector acts as a catalyst which helps rebuild broken sulphide disulphide bonds back together. The product is a clear liquid that you apply to your hair after bleaching or lightening it. It should be applied from mid-lengths to the ends of the hair. Leave it on for 5 minutes and then rinse off with cold water - Remember it's always better to use Olaplex No.3 with Olaplex No 0, and Olaplex No 8. If you have previously used bleach on your hair, bear this in mind when doing a treatment at home! You can use a hairdryer after the treatment but don't apply heat over your head for another 30 mins to let the product work its magic on bonding broken disulphide bonds together again!

How should I prepare my bleached hair for Olaplex No.3?

The process of lightening your hair weakens it by breaking down the disulphide bonds in the keratin protein chains. You should always protect your hair before applying heat on it, which is why I recommend using Bond Protection Spray on dry or damp hair before you use the treatment. This will enable Olaplex to bond with your split ends and repair them back together again like new! What's even better is that you only need a small amount (2-5 sprays) of product before using Olaplex 3, which means that one 100ml bottle will last you forever and ever and ever and ever.

Does Olaplex really work?

Yes, it does work. Olaplex is a miracle worker and has lifted the industry standard of what we thought was possible before. It works on bleached blonde hair, but also damaged and weak hair that's been heat styled over and over again. As Dr Pressly discovered: "nobody would pay $200 for a pop of colour - But they will pay $50+ to keep their blonde hair as light as possible". Unfortunately this means long term damage to your hair which you can't reverse unless you use Olaplex! This treatment is so gentle on your already-damaged hair that you can actually bleach or colour your hair afterwards if you wanted to (even though I don't recommend it!) How many times can I use Olaplex? You can use Olaplex 0, Olaplex 3, and Olaplex 8 on your hair as many times as you like but it's best to wait 3-4 weeks before using it again so that the disulphide bonds have time to recover from the chemical process!
